European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has acknowledged that relations between the EU and the United States are facing a serious test under the current administration of US President Donald Trump.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that foreign media outlets carried the remarks.
“Our relationship has, of course, changed, and it is clear to everyone that it is currently facing a serious test,” Kallas said.
The EU’s high representative added that there had also been periods in history when relations between the two sides were complicated.
“However, this relationship is vital for both sides,” she stressed.
The EU and the United States have traditionally cooperated closely on security, trade and foreign policy. Their partnership has also played a central role in transatlantic coordination on major international challenges.
