The benefit is worked out from four times the social insurance contributions of the last 4 full quarters (Rules, point 2.7) — that is, the pay of that period. Enter 0 if there was no work in it (point 2.9).
Days of those 4 quarters for which sick or maternity benefit was paid, and days of partly paid social leave (point 2.13).
At least 6 months are needed for the benefit.

You are assumed to be paid your wage on the month’s other working days; the tax is what the benefit adds to that month’s tax. The employer makes the final settlement (Rules, point 7.1.1.4), so the take-home figure is an estimate.
How the rules work
- The benefit is paid at 100 percent of the calculated amount (Rules, point 2.16). There are no different percentages by length of service in the text — the right needs at least 6 months of insurance record (Law art. 6).
- The employer pays the first 14 calendar days from its own funds, the state fund pays the remaining days. If the illness comes in breaks, the first 14 days are the employer’s each time (point 2.5).
- The benefit runs from the first day of illness until recovery, for at most one year (point 2.6). The days are the calendar days on the electronic sick note (point 2.1).
- The monthly amount may not exceed 25 minimum labour pensions (8,000.00 ₼) or twice the monthly salary (point 2.10).
- Only income tax is withheld; DSMF, unemployment and medical insurance contributions are not (point 7.6.7). The income tax exemption does not cover the benefit (Tax Code art. 102.1.4).
What the calculator does not have
- Illnesses that began before 1 May 2026: the older rules in force on that date apply to them.
- Maternity benefit: a separate benefit (Rules, part 3).
- Several jobs: for the first 14 days each employer works from the pay at its own workplace, the remaining days from total pay (points 2.11–2.12).
- Industrial accident and occupational disease: if the employer is at fault it pays the whole period and the twice-the-salary limit does not apply (points 2.10.1, 2.17).
- The text does not say how the monthly limit applies to an illness covering only part of a month; the calculator shares the limit out by the month’s calendar days. While the benefit stays under the monthly limit this changes nothing.

Questions
How is sick leave pay worked out?
The pay of the 4 full quarters before the illness is divided by the calendar days of that period (less the excluded days) — one day’s average pay; it is multiplied by the days of illness (Rules, points 2.7–2.8). For example, 7,200 AZN over 4 quarters and 365 days: 7,200 ÷ 365 = 19.73 AZN; for 25 days 19.73 × 25 = 493.25 AZN.
Who pays for sick leave?
The employer pays the first 14 calendar days from its own funds, the state fund pays the rest (point 2.5). The fund’s part is transferred within 5 working days of the data being passed on (point 7.1.2.5); in most cases no application is needed — the benefit is set automatically from the electronic sick note (point 1.6).
Is there a 60, 80 or 100 percent difference by service?
Not in the Rules in force (since 1 May 2026): the benefit is paid at 100 percent of the calculated amount (point 2.16). The right to it needs at least 6 months of social insurance record (Law art. 6, point 1.5).
Is the benefit taxed?
Income tax is withheld — the benefit is not among the state benefits exempt from tax (Tax Code art. 102.1.4). DSMF, unemployment and medical insurance contributions are not withheld; only alimony and damages under a court order may be taken (point 7.6.7).
What is the upper limit?
The monthly amount may not exceed 25 minimum labour pensions (320 ₼ × 25 = 8,000 ₼) or twice the monthly salary (point 2.10; Law art. 6). After an industrial accident or occupational disease the twice-the-salary limit does not apply.
Which 4 quarters are used?
The last 4 full quarters that ended before the month the illness began. For an illness starting in June 2026, for example, Q2 2025 to Q1 2026. Days of those quarters for which sick or maternity benefit was paid are taken out of the divisor (point 2.13).
