The European Union’s (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said cooperation between the EU and the United States on Ukraine is currently very difficult.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media.
Kallas said she regretted US President Donald Trump’s decision to reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on diesel fuel supplies.
“We are working on a new sanctions package to put pressure on Russia. Of course, we hope to do this together with all our partners around the world,” Kallas said.
She said European partners were trying to convince others of the importance of putting pressure on the aggressor to end the war.
“If we want to end this war, we have to put pressure on the aggressor. This is not only about stopping the war, but also about preventing Russia from starting new wars in the future,” the EU official stressed.
Kallas also addressed rising tensions between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump. Amid the tensions, restrictions have been imposed on Ukraine’s use of the Starlink satellite communications system, owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
“Starlink is truly essential for Ukraine. Unfortunately, Europe cannot replace this capability in the short term. That is why we are also discussing the issue of defense capabilities today,” Kallas said.
The EU’s top diplomat also said the coming winter would be extremely difficult and harsh for Ukraine. Russia is intensifying its ongoing attacks, she said, and there are no signs that Moscow intends to stop the war.
“We see no signs that Russia wants to end this war or is ready for any ceasefire. That is why we must help Ukrainians survive and defend their country,” Kallas stressed.
