The creation of a “Turkic Schengen” was discussed at the third meeting of the interior ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Astana.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Hürriyet, reports that Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi made the remarks while speaking to journalists about the meeting.
According to him, work is continuing to establish special passport-control points at airports in Turkic states for citizens of OTS member countries.
“When we travel to one of the European countries, we see that citizens of the European Union pass through one control point, while citizens of other countries use another. We are continuing efforts to establish a similar system among the Turkic states,” he said.
The Organization of Turkic States brings together Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan as member states, while Hungary, Turkmenistan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus participate as observers. The organization works to strengthen cooperation in areas including transport, trade, security and people-to-people contacts.
