Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will face Russian Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna. Alcaraz, who is ranked second in the world, praised his opponent’s game ahead of the match.
“I’m very happy to have reached the semifinals in Vienna again. Considering I haven’t dropped a set, everything is going great. I’m looking forward to getting on court tomorrow and playing another tough match,” Alcaraz said.
He said he had watched Medvedev’s matches at the tournament and that the Russian was playing “fantastic tennis.” Alcaraz said Medvedev had performed well in beating Cameron Norrie yesterday and Adrian Mannarino today. He added that entering the tournament as defending champion had also given him confidence.
Alcaraz said it was difficult to play against Medvedev’s style because of the long rallies and the sustained demands of the matches. In his view, the balls wear out quickly after two or three games, making it harder to generate pace, and Medvedev could take advantage of that.
The Spaniard said he would be ready for a physically demanding match and long rallies, and would need to play flawlessly and perform well in many aspects of the game. According to Punto de Break, the Medvedev-Alcaraz match is scheduled to begin at around 5 p.m. Moscow time on October 31.
