Former UFC champion Henry Cejudo has discussed Russian fighter Petr Yan’s achievements. Yan defeated Merab Dvalishvili in a title fight last weekend.
Yan has held the championship belt twice during his career but has defended it only once. Speaking on his podcast, Cejudo said some people were calling Yan the greatest fighter in the bantamweight division after his victory over Dvalishvili, but noted that Yan had made few title defenses.
“Petr beat Merab, and now everyone is calling him the greatest fighter in the bantamweight division. He has only one title defense. Before him, the division featured Dominick Cruz, TJ Dillashaw and Aljamain Sterling, who beat Petr twice. I think it is still too early to put Petr in the same class as the greats. Many fighters have defended their belts more times than he has,” Cejudo said.
