Russia and Ukraine have completed demining routes for a humanitarian mission to the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky, the countries’ human rights commissioners said on Thursday, according to Anadolu Agency.
Yana Lantratova and Dmytro Lubinets said in separate Telegram statements that the convoy was ready to depart for the central district hospital in Oleshky, in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region.
People wishing to leave the settlement will have the opportunity to do so until 2 pm (1200 GMT), the commissioners said. Humanitarian aid will be distributed after 2.30 pm.
“All necessary security measures will be in place,” they said. The commissioners also thanked US first lady Melania Trump for her “personal involvement, mediation, and coordination, which made it possible to reach these humanitarian agreements.”
A ceasefire brokered by Trump between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky took effect at 0100 GMT on Tuesday to facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations. The city came under Moscow’s control in 2022. The ceasefire is due to remain in effect until 10.59 pm on Sunday.
