Neftchi midfielder Sessi Dalmeyda has described taking part in Lionel Messi’s farewell match as one of the historic moments of his career. In an interview, he also discussed the 3-2 victory over Shamakhi in the 10th round of the Azerbaijan Premier League.
Match against Shamakhi
Dalmeyda said the match was entertaining. He stressed that Shamakhi are a good team with strong players and that playing on an artificial pitch was difficult. He said Neftchi performed well as a team and ultimately secured the win.
The midfielder said his team started the match well and opened the scoring, but the game later did not go as they had hoped. Dalmeyda noted that the opponents also put up a good fight, adding that the key point for him was the victory.
He emphasized the importance of the three points and said Neftchi were now at the top of the standings. However, he said that was not the end of the road and that the team needed to focus on the matches ahead.
Dalmeyda said they would work towards becoming winter champions, but would not rush and would take each match as it came. Neftchi are due to face Kapaz, and he said the team wanted to win and make their supporters happy.
Messi’s farewell match
Dalmeyda, who took to the pitch for Benin’s national team in Lionel Messi’s farewell match, called it a “historic moment.” He said he presented the Argentine star with a gift as captain and was glad to have been part of the occasion.
“Messi really is a legend of world football. I’m very happy that I had the chance to take part in that match. I experienced wonderful emotions,” Dalmeyda said.
