Neftchi chief executive Cenk Sümer said the team would compete for the league title and cup trophies this season. He said the club aims to reach the group stage of European competitions in the future and make that a consistent achievement.
Sümer said Neftchi, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, is focused on achieving strong results and that winning trophies is the club’s objective every season. He noted that the squad has changed, the team’s level has improved and the championship is more competitive than in previous years. After nine rounds, there is no outright leader at the top of the standings, while Sabah and Qarabag are also still in contention.
Sümer said the club has been undergoing a restructuring process for more than two years and that its management wants to see results from the work and investment. The head coach, team, technical staff and management are working toward the same goal. He made the remarks to AZERTAC.
Regarding the winter transfer window, Sümer said the club has plans but has not made a final decision. Neftchi signed Breno last winter and 10 players this summer. Nine of them were new arrivals, while Vargas’ loan deal was replaced with a permanent transfer. The club is considering candidates based on the head coach’s report and its own plans, while the scouting department is watching players in person. New signings are therefore possible in the winter.
Neftchi are second in the Premier League standings with 18 points.
