Polish media have focused on the rise of Sabah defender Tymoteusz Puchacz. According to Mymistrzowie, the footballer’s move to Azerbaijan was one of the best decisions of his career.
In a section titled “Azerbaijan — a land of promise,” the publication says Puchacz regained his previous form in Baku after spells in Germany, Turkey, Greece and England. It described his loan move to Sabah at the end of 2025, followed by the formal completion of his transfer in May 2026, as a turning point in his career.
Success with Sabah
The Polish publication highlighted Puchacz’s Azerbaijan league title and national cup win with Sabah, as well as his appearance in the Champions League league phase. It noted that he played the full 90 minutes against Manchester United and Slavia Prague and provided an assist in the match against Borussia Dortmund on October 20.
The article also said the defender was unable to break into Union Berlin’s first team in Germany and was left on the bench at Holstein Kiel. In the publication’s view, his success at Sabah helped him return to the Poland national team. However, Puchacz has yet to fully secure his place in the squad.
The 27-year-old defender has made 16 appearances for Poland. He was called up to the national team again by head coach Jan Urban in autumn 2026.
