Sabah defender Tymoteusz Puchacz has said that religious faith plays an important role in his life. The 27-year-old Polish footballer discussed the subject on Maya Strelczyk’s “Autochwile” podcast.
Puchacz said he had always been a believer, but had undergone spiritual changes in recent times. He said meeting his wife, Olivia, had influenced that process.
“When I met Olivia, I felt I had found true love. For me, God is love. There is a strong connection between my love for my wife and my love for God. Recently, I said that I would like to be like Jesus Christ. I just want to do good for everyone,” Puchacz said.
The Poland international also said he takes a Bible with him to matches and reads passages from it before going onto the pitch. His wife, Olivia, said on the podcast that Puchacz draws motivation from criticism.
The defender, who has played for Sabah since last season, won the Azerbaijan championship and the national cup with the Baku club. The team subsequently qualified for the Champions League league phase. Puchacz linked that success to his religious faith, saying he believes God does not give him dreams without a reason.
Sabah will play its second match in the Champions League league phase today. The Baku side will host Slavia Prague at Baku Olympic Stadium. Kick-off is at 20:45.
