The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) will meet on the sidelines of the organization’s 13th summit in Ankara on October 29-30.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Turkish broadcaster TRT Haber cited sources at Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ministers will meet for the fifth time this year, with one session held in an official format and four in informal formats. They will discuss areas of cooperation within the OTS and steps to strengthen the organization institutionally. Several administrative and financial documents are expected to be approved at the end of the meeting.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to hold bilateral talks with his counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting. Fidan is expected to stress in his address that political dialogue among Turkic states, as well as their shared historical, linguistic and cultural ties, are translating into practical cooperation.
During Türkiye’s chairmanship of the OTS, priority is expected to be given to strengthening the organization’s institutional capacity, developing the secretariat’s resources and improving coordination. Fidan will highlight the importance of strategic partnerships in energy, trade, investment, digital transformation and the defense industry, as well as strengthening the Middle Corridor across the Caspian Sea. He will also refer to the impact of developments in Afghanistan on regional security and stress the importance of increasing consultations among OTS countries.
Founded under the Nakhchivan Agreement on October 3, 2009, the organization will hold its 13th summit in Ankara, hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The summit is dedicated to the theme “Turkic World: Unity in Language, Thought and Action.” The organization currently has five full members — Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan — and four observer members: Hungary, Turkmenistan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Economic Cooperation Organization.
