Galatasaray beat Germany’s Stuttgart 2-0 in the fourth round of the Champions League league phase. Both goals came from Aleksey Batrakov in the match, played on Nov. 3 at RAMS Park in Istanbul. He scored in the 12th and 15th minutes.
Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir said after the match that his team had performed well in the first half and praised Batrakov’s goals. Cakir said the team had started the match as planned and tried to put into practice the game plan it had prepared with the coach.
He said the team knew its opponents would press high and had planned to send passes in behind the defenders. Cakir stressed that Okan Hoca had prepared the team well and that the players had shown character. He added that the support of the fans made the team feel as though it was playing with an extra player.
The goalkeeper said the team’s victory mattered more than the performance of any individual player. Galatasaray currently have six points, and Cakir said the team wanted to reach the next stage and earn more points than it did last season. Fanatik reported his remarks.
After the result, Galatasaray stood 14th in the standings with six points from four matches. Stuttgart were eighth with seven points.
