Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of attempting to sabotage potential peace negotiations through targeted strikes on civilians.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Zakharova made these remarks during an interview with Sputnik radio. She stated that the Zelenskyy administration is actively working to undermine any peace initiatives by resorting to terrorist tactics and strikes against the civilian population.
“How does the Zelenskyy regime react to contacts? This does not stem from military necessity or the logic of the situation on the battlefield. The strikes are carried out specifically against the civilian population and social facilities. These are not just strikes; they are terrorist attacks,” the diplomat noted, emphasizing that such actions are designed to block any progress toward a diplomatic resolution.
Zakharova further noted that while specific details of a final peace plan are not currently under discussion, every step taken toward a potential dialogue is met with similar escalatory reactions from Kiev. This statement comes amid a complex geopolitical landscape where international mediators continue to seek a path toward de-escalation. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has frequently maintained that Kiev's military strategy is influenced by external actors, a claim that remains a central point of contention in the ongoing conflict.
