UN Deputy Secretary-General spokesperson Shirin Yasin made critical remarks on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories during a daily news briefing.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports, citing foreign media.
Shirin Yasin said a UN warehouse in Khan Yunis, Gaza, was seriously damaged in Israeli army airstrikes. No UN staff members were injured.
The UN official said fires caused by Israeli airstrikes last week forced more than 100 Palestinian families to lose their shelter tents and belongings. Yasin said Israel was continuing to block humanitarian aid and called for all border crossings to be opened immediately and restrictions to be lifted.
Yasin also described the situation in Hebron, in the West Bank, as dire. Nearly 3,000 Palestinians are unable to return to their homes after Israeli forces placed two neighborhoods under siege. Israeli soldiers have blocked roads, severely restricting residents’ access to health care, education and livelihoods.
The UN official also strongly condemned attacks by Israeli settlers on 14 mosques in the West Bank this year and stressed the need to ensure the inviolability of places of worship.
