Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has criticized the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Clinton outlined her views on the Netanyahu government while appearing on a program broadcast by MS NOW.
“I love Israel, but I hate the Netanyahu government and its policies. I love America, but I hate the Trump administration and its policies,” Clinton said.
Clinton also addressed reports that United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had warned Netanyahu about a possible attack from the Gaza Strip before the events of Oct. 7, 2023. She described the reported failure to act as a leadership failure.
“I don’t know what he [Netanyahu] was thinking, but it was a leadership failure,” she said.
Clinton stressed that the United States should take a tougher stance if Israeli society votes for Netanyahu again.
“If Israelis want to vote for him [Netanyahu] again, then I think the United States should take a very tough position,” Clinton said.
Clinton also commented on violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
She said she hoped that a new prime minister would take firm measures against settler violence in the West Bank.
“I hope the new prime minister will take tough measures against settler violence in the [occupied] West Bank,” Clinton said.
The former US secretary of state also stressed that impunity for such violence was unacceptable.
“It is unfair, bad and wrong for Palestinians,” she added.
Netanyahu has served as Israel’s prime minister for multiple terms and remains a central figure in the country’s political system. The United States has historically been one of Israel’s closest allies, while Washington’s approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and settlement policy has continued to draw international attention.
