Sabah player Aiden McCarthy says his goal against Borussia Dortmund in the third round of the Champions League league phase is one of the most memorable moments of his career. The South African said he was disappointed that the match ended in a 2-1 defeat.
“Of course, the result is not good for us. There is a lot we can learn from this match. Scoring my first goal in the UEFA Champions League and doing so for Sabah is a major moment for me. It will hold a special place in my career and is one of those moments I will never forget,” McCarthy told Offsideplus.az.
The player thanked the fans celebrating his goal in his home country, those who supported him and his family. McCarthy said he had followed the excitement on social media and expressed his gratitude for the support of his loved ones.
McCarthy also said the stadium atmosphere, amplified by Borussia fans, did not affect his performance. He said he had also played in stadiums with capacities of 100,000 in the country where he came from, and that he focuses entirely on the game once he steps onto the pitch.
