Ramiz Mehdiyev, former head of the Presidential Administration, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. The Baku Court of Grave Crimes issued the ruling on October 22. Taking into account Mehdiyev’s age and health condition due to his illnesses, the court decided under Article 70 of the Criminal Code to suspend the prison sentence.
The ruling also ordered that a submission be sent for consideration of stripping Ramiz Mehdiyev of his state awards. It further stipulated that his property be confiscated and transferred to the state.
On October 28, the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) decided to expel Ramiz Mehdiyev from the academy.
