Pakistan has called on the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a Pakistani official, Ahmed, made the remarks in an interview with The National newspaper.
Addressing why the memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran had not been implemented, Ahmed said there was a lack of mutual trust between the parties.
According to him, both sides appeared hesitant about moving toward implementation of the memorandum.
“We insist on returning to the negotiating table,” Ahmed said.
He noted that, despite all the difficulties, Pakistan continues to hold high-level meetings with both Washington and Tehran.
Asked whether the United States or Iran was more reluctant to resume negotiations, Ahmed said the issue was not as simple as determining which side bore greater responsibility or which was more prepared to return to talks.
The Pakistani official said that if a ceasefire could be reached in April amid intense confrontations and escalating tensions, followed by efforts to bring the parties together and secure their agreement on the text of an understanding, there was likewise no reason why they could not return to the negotiating table.
Pakistan has historically sought to maintain working relations with both Washington and Tehran. Its mediation efforts reflect broader regional attempts to reduce tensions through dialogue and confidence-building measures.
