Azerbaijan national Greco-Roman wrestling team member Nihat Mammadli assessed his performance at the world championships in Kazakhstan, where he won a silver medal.
“Alhamdulillah, I became a world championship silver medallist. The only reason I am disappointed is that my own mistakes cost me the gold medal and a second world title. Perhaps the gold medal was meant for me, but I rushed, and the result was difficult for me,” Mammadli wrote on his Instagram account.
He said he believed things would get better and would do everything he could to make that happen. Mammadli expressed gratitude for his result and thanked those who supported him, those who had worked hard, and the federation leadership for providing the necessary conditions. He also thanked everyone who congratulated him and sent kind messages.
Mammadli, who competed in the 63-kilogram category, faced Armenia’s Karen Aslanyan in the final and lost 8-4. It was his second medal at the world championships. Mammadli won gold at the 2024 world championships in Tirana.
