Santos president Marcelo Teixeira and Neymar’s father, Neymar da Silva, issued a joint statement on social media announcing his appointment as the club’s CEO.
Alongside his work at the club, Neymar da Silva will head the Meninos da Vila institute. The organization will oversee young players’ careers and Santos’ “Eternal Idols” program.
According to Globo Esporte, Neymar’s father will be responsible for the club’s strategic planning through December. He will retain his position if Teixeira is re-elected in the election scheduled for December 12.
Neymar da Silva has been involved in Santos’ affairs through his company NR Sports since his son returned to the club. His responsibilities have included securing partnership agreements for the renovation of Vila Belmiro stadium, including refurbishment of the changing rooms and repainting of the stands.
He also mediated the construction of new facilities for the youth academy at the club’s training center. The project received an investment of 8 million Brazilian reais (about 1.3 million euros). Neymar’s father brought companies on board to carry out the project.
