Manchester United officials planned to sack head coach Michael Carrick before the team’s Premier League ninth-round match against Chelsea, The Sun reported. However, the club could not agree on who should replace him.
According to the report, the candidates under consideration failed to convince United’s leadership. Fabian Hurzeler, who manages Brighton, was not considered as a possible successor to Carrick because of the high compensation Brighton would demand for his transfer.
Manchester United is said to have supporters of Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery. However, Emery’s contract with the Birmingham club runs until 2029, and his transfer would also be costly.
Chelsea and Manchester United are scheduled to meet on October 31 at 16:30 Baku time.
