Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick did not directly answer a question about Bruno Fernandes’ status as captain. Fernandes criticised the team’s tactical plan after their 4-1 defeat by Como in the third round of the Champions League league phase.
“I’m simply saying that, whatever the situation, I will do what is best for the club,” Carrick said in comments quoted by The Telegraph.
Carrick was also asked whether Fernandes’ remarks could cause a split in the squad as he tried to bring the team together following recent comments by Lisandro Martinez.
“The most important thing for me is the team. First and foremost, the squad and the dynamics within it matter. Again, this is about the club. I will always do what is best for the club,” Carrick said.
The match was played on October 21, 2026. Paz scored for Como in the second and 57th minutes, Douvikas in the 49th and Ramon in the 76th. Zirkzee scored Manchester United’s only goal in the 90+1st minute.
