Former England international and former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Joel criticized Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes after the Portuguese player questioned head coach Michael Carrick’s defensive plan following a 1-4 defeat to Como in the third round of the Champions League league phase.
“Bruno Fernandes is undoubtedly questioning the tactics. I have played under coaches I disagreed with, but you can say that to a friend or your wife… As club captain, you do not question the coach. And he is not doing it in the right way. If you are going to express your opinion, be brave and say it directly. He seems to be saying, ‘It could have been done differently, but the decision belongs to the coach,’” Joel said on TNT Sports.
In the match played on October 21, Como’s goals were scored by Paz in the second and 57th minutes, Douvikas in the 49th and Ramon in the 76th. Zirkzee scored Manchester United’s only goal in the 90+1st minute.
In the fourth round of the Champions League league phase, Como will face Lens on November 4, while Manchester United will play Roma on November 3.
