French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump held a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The two leaders agreed to work together to ease tensions in energy markets, protect critical infrastructure in the Middle East and ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
“We will also join forces to seek a moratorium on strikes against Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure. Civilians must be protected, and we must begin serious negotiations on the terms of peace between Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible,” Macron said.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the French president said the discussions had been very good and constructive.
He added that the sides had held extensive discussions on the Russia-Ukraine issue and the importance of providing Ukrainian allies with interceptor missiles more quickly and in greater quantities, which he described as a key defense priority.
Macron and Trump are also scheduled to address world leaders and diplomats during the UN General Assembly. The annual high-level session brings together representatives of UN member states to discuss major international security and political issues.
