Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had shot down and neutralized a US Air Force MQ-9 Reaper strike and reconnaissance drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that an official IRGC statement said the strategic drone was targeted and destroyed by a new locally made missile system operated by the country’s integrated air defense network.
Iranian military officials claim this is the 54th MQ-9 drone shot down by Iran’s air defense forces during the current military clashes and period of heightened tensions.
The US and Israeli armed forces began large-scale airstrikes against military, nuclear and strategic sites in Iran on February 28. Iran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting US military bases and strategic sites in the region. The military conflict between the parties remains unresolved.
