Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on a working visit.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Lavrov will discuss urgent steps to ease escalating military and political tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East at an expanded meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.

Another key topic will be implementing the provisions of the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Moscow and Tehran, as well as taking practical steps to strengthen bilateral relations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is also expected to receive the Russian foreign minister during the visit.

On October 19, during a visit to Bahrain, Lavrov said at a news conference that the United States’ position and methods in its military conflict with Iran were not contributing to resolving the regional crisis. Commenting on the blockade of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and incidents involving the safety of ships, the minister stressed the need to address the underlying and root causes of the crisis to ease military tensions.
