“The Arctic should become a zone of dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation, not confrontation.”
“Operative Information Center-OMM” quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.
“We are convinced that the Arctic should not be an area of confrontation. The Arctic should be a space for mutually beneficial cooperation, not a zone of conflict. Dialogue is necessary to ensure this. Russia is open to such dialogue,” Peskov stressed.
He made the remarks while commenting on a statement by Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, about the EU’s intention to compete with Russia and China in the Arctic.
Peskov said Kallas had repeatedly spoken against any dialogue:
“Therefore, European diplomats should clarify their positions somewhat and probably explain to one another how they plan to establish forms of cooperation without dialogue. In our view, this is impossible.”
