“A possible decision to deploy a NATO military base and nuclear weapons in Lithuania could further escalate tensions, and Russia will be forced to take retaliatory measures.”
“Operative Information Center-OMM” quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.
Peskov said bringing NATO military infrastructure closer to Russia’s borders, as well as deploying nuclear weapons in a neighboring country, could be viewed as steps toward increasing tensions.
“Neither of these measures would contribute to stability or predictability in Europe. On the contrary, unfortunately, they would mark another serious stage in the escalation of tensions. Russia, of course, will be forced to take all necessary measures to ensure its security reliably,” Peskov was quoted as saying.
