Fenerbahce’s press service issued a statement after the Istanbul derby against Galatasaray. The Turkish Super Lig match, played on October 26 as part of the ninth round, ended in a 2-1 victory for Galatasaray.

Victor Osimhen scored for the winners in the 29th and 44th minutes. Irfan Can Kahveci scored Fenerbahce’s only goal in the 62nd minute.

In its statement, Fenerbahce strongly condemned verbal and physical attacks against its players during the derby. The club alleged that the incidents began with verbal abuse directed at Kerem Akturkoglu and continued when Galatasaray analyst Serhat Dogan attacked Matteo Guendouzi. The statement also said Abdülkerim Bardakcı grabbed one of the team’s players by the hair.

Fenerbahce stressed that the intensity of the derby did not justify attacks on players. The club called for a thorough investigation by disciplinary bodies into everyone involved and demanded that those responsible be punished without exception. The statement said that ensuring those at fault are not left unpunished is the only way to prevent violence in Turkish football.
