Besiktas’ press office has accused the Turkish Super Lig’s official broadcaster and the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) of applying double standards. The club issued its statement after the derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce on Oct. 26, which ended 2-1.
Besiktas said that several weeks earlier, the broadcaster had repeatedly shown its player Dusan Vlahovic’s sudden movement from different angles. The club said the footage had helped TFF lawyers build a case against the player, who was subsequently suspended.
The club alleged that during the mass brawl involving dozens of players on the pitch after the derby, the broadcaster switched to wide shots and tried to conceal the events during the live broadcast. “This will go down in Turkish sports history as an example of double standards. Why are close-ups used when Besiktas is involved, while mass clashes involving other clubs are covered up with wide shots?” the statement said.
Galatasaray took a 2-0 lead in the derby with goals from Victor Osimhen in the 29th and 44th minutes. Irfan Can Kahveci scored Fenerbahce’s only goal in the 62nd minute.
