Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed a ceremony marking the opening of the 2026-2027 academic year and the collective inauguration of completed education investments in Ankara.

Operative Information Center-OMM reported, citing the Turkish media.

According to the report, Erdoğan discussed Türkiye’s achievements in education. He said that in the PISA 2025 report, which involved 91 countries, Türkiye was the country that most improved its scores in science, mathematics and reading. The Turkish president said the country’s results had increased by 50 percent in all three areas, adding that the achievement should please teachers, students and parents.

Erdoğan also said the share of the budget allocated to education had been raised to 15.33 percent. He stressed that the construction of new schools and the strengthening of education infrastructure would continue. More than 4.3 billion textbooks have so far been provided to students, while the main aim of these investments is to ensure children have equal and fair access to education, the report said. The Turkish leader emphasized the importance of ensuring that future generations understand national values, use artificial intelligence effectively and grow into critical-thinking and virtuous individuals under the “Maarif” model.

PISA, the Programme for International Student Assessment, is conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development to measure the performance of 15-year-old students in reading, mathematics and science.
