Neftchi CEO Cenk Sümer said in an interview with futbolxeber.az that the team aims to win the league title and trophies by the end of the season. He began by congratulating the people of Azerbaijan on Victory Day and wishing mercy for the martyrs and a speedy recovery for veterans.
Sümer said he was pleased with the 1-0 win over Kapaz and that the team played well. He also praised the opponents’ fighting spirit and said their fans add colour to the championship. Assessing Neftchi’s performance in the first 11 rounds positively, Sümer stressed that the championship is a long marathon and that different results are possible in every match.
The club is not specifically searching for a goalkeeper to sign in winter, but its scouts are watching matches in various countries. Sümer said transfers would depend on the head coach’s requirements, the budget and the club’s targets. He added that, apart from Vargas, the club signed nine players in the summer and that substitutes who came on had helped the team.
Possible injuries and offers from other clubs will be considered in transfer decisions. Sümer said he was sorry that Emin Mahmudov had left the national team, describing him as Neftchi’s captain and a valuable player. Breno Almeida has received an offer from Cyprus, but will not move there. Sümer noted that the top scorer, Almeida, is having a good season.
The CEO called the failure to fill the stands one of the club’s biggest problems. Sümer said work would be done on this during the break and thanked the fans who supported the team in the match against Kapaz.
