Sabah forward Joy-Lance Mickels may not get his wish to return to Borussia Monchengladbach. According to NTV, the 32-year-old wants to play in the Bundesliga.
The German club has held talks with Mickels, but there have been no formal negotiations between the parties. Monchengladbach are not currently interested in signing the player and have no concrete plans regarding him.
The Rwanda international could leave Sabah during the winter transfer window. Several teams are interested in him. His contract with the Azerbaijani champions runs until 2028.
According to German media reports, Sabah has verbally agreed to allow Mickels to leave if it receives a suitable offer. A potential transfer fee is estimated at 400,000 to 500,000 euros.
Born in Siegburg, Mickels joined Borussia Monchengladbach’s academy in 2005 and spent nine years there. However, he was unable to establish himself in the first team.
The forward scored 19 goals in 25 appearances in the 2025/26 Azerbaijan Premier League season, finishing as the competition’s top scorer. He played a key role in Sabah winning the first league title in the club’s history.
