One person was killed and four others injured after a man opened fire in northern France on Friday morning, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said, according to Anadolu Agency.
“Very serious incidents have just occurred in Trappes, in the Yvelines department. One person has been killed and four others injured. The individual has been arrested and placed in police custody,” Lecornu wrote on the social media platform “X”.
Lecornu said all security forces were fully mobilised, while France’s National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office was monitoring the situation.
The suspect reportedly fired several shots in public from a vehicle in Trappes and then in La Verrière, broadcaster BFMTV reported.
The death toll could still change as the situation develops, according to reports.
