The Asian Cup will be held in even-numbered years from now on.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has approved amendments to its charter changing the tournament schedule, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.
The 2027 Asian Cup will be the last under the current cycle. The next tournament will be held in 2032, but its host has not yet been selected.
Under the new system, the confederation’s election cycle will be aligned with the tournament cycle.
The next elections for the AFC president will take place in 2027. Those elected will begin their terms on Jan. 1, 2028, and remain in office until 2032.
The 2027 Asian Cup is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from Jan. 7 to Feb. 5.
