Austria has expelled four Russian diplomats, the country’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday, according to Anadolu Agency, citing broadcaster ORF.
Three of the diplomats were accredited to the Russian Embassy in Vienna, while the fourth was part of Russia’s delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
The ministry said the diplomats had engaged in activities deemed incompatible with their diplomatic status. They were declared “persona non grata” and required to leave Austria.
The ministry did not provide further details about the reasons for the expulsions, but said the measures were based on findings by security authorities.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky told state news agency TASS that Moscow would “inevitably” respond to the expulsions.
