Azerbaijani chess player Aydin Suleymanli said he was satisfied with his performance at the European Chess Club Cup in Budva, Montenegro.

“Individually, the competition went satisfactorily for me. For the first time in my career, I beat a top-level player such as Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov. For that reason, I think my performance at this tournament can be considered successful,” Suleymanli said.

The player, who competed for the Vugar Gashimov team, also commented on the team’s result. He said the team had aimed for a better finish but had not managed to achieve it this time.

“Although we wanted to perform well, we had to settle for 10th place,” Suleymanli said.

Vugar Gashimov finished 10th in the men’s competition with 10 points. Suleymanli, who competed for the club, won the bronze medal on board one based on his individual performance.

In the women’s competition, Serbia’s Sirmium Sremska Mitrovica and Azerbaijan’s Odlar Yurdu shared third and fourth places, each scoring 10 points. Odlar Yurdu finished fourth on tiebreaks. The club’s Gulnar Mammadova won gold on board four.
