Youth and Sports Minister Farid Gayibov said more than 2,000 people took part in the Victory Run in Baku. Speaking to journalists during the event, he said it had become a tradition and that interest in mass sporting events was growing.

Gayibov said the race, dedicated to the sixth anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War, is being held for the sixth time this year. The minister said he was pleased with the favorable weather and participants’ high spirits.

He said the number of runners has increased each year and welcomed growing interest among women in such events. Various races over different distances, including 3- and 5-kilometer events, are held in Azerbaijan throughout the year, Gayibov said, adding that a half-marathon is organized annually.

The minister added that the half-marathon has been upgraded to a full marathon this year. He said such events help motivate athletes to prepare for larger competitions. Gayibov congratulated all participants, particularly those who crossed the finish line.

The Victory Run, dedicated to the Victory in the Patriotic War, has been held annually since 2021.
