The Baku leg of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup has opened. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Youth and Sports Minister Farid Gayibov said the event was being held in Azerbaijan for the first time.
Gayibov called the event another celebration of sport and thanked the International Swimming Federation for entrusting Azerbaijan with hosting the competition. The minister also thanked the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation for organizing the event and the spectators in the stands for supporting the athletes.
“This is the first time a leg of the Swimming World Cup has been held in Azerbaijan. I congratulate all of you on this occasion,” the minister said at the opening ceremony.
Farid Gayibov said that, as a result of the state policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev in the field of sport, the country achieves new successes every month. He also noted that Baku is the World Capital of Sport for 2026.
The youth and sports minister wished the competitors success and guests visiting Azerbaijan an enjoyable stay in the country.
