US President Donald Trump has commented on the possible supply of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine and the issuance of licenses for their production.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that RIA Novosti published the US leader’s remarks.
A journalist asked Trump whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would be able to obtain Patriot systems and licenses for their production.
Trump replied that it would be a “less advanced version.”
It was reported earlier that Ukraine had nearly depleted its missiles for Patriot systems.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Kyiv would need several years to build factories for producing Patriot systems even if it obtained a license from the United States.
According to him, talks on the issue are continuing and could produce results in the future.
The Patriot is a US-made surface-to-air missile system designed to detect and intercept aircraft and certain types of missiles. Any transfer of the systems or production technology would require approval under US export-control rules and would depend on technical and political arrangements between the two countries.
