Rubio says resolving Ukraine conflict remains difficult

Diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict remain a complex and difficult task. Despite this, Washington continues to hope for a successful outcome in negotiations between the parties.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the remarks in an interview with Fox News.

The head of the US foreign policy agency highlighted the complexity of the diplomatic efforts. “It is really difficult, but we retain hope that we can achieve a successful outcome in this direction,” Marco Rubio said. He added that the protracted conflict continues to inflict serious damage on both Ukraine and Russia.

Meanwhile, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov reiterated Moscow’s position. Peskov said the conditions set out by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the settlement of the Ukraine crisis and peace talks remain unchanged, as they were stated two years ago.

The Kremlin official stressed that Russia remains ready for the conflict to move to the diplomatic sphere and for dialogue to resume.

Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have involved discussions on ceasefire arrangements, security guarantees and the conditions for a lasting settlement. The positions of the parties, however, remain significantly different.
