Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced that he will hold a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the announcement, citing the diplomat’s remarks at an interagency roundtable discussion on developments surrounding the conflict in Ukraine.
According to the report, the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly will take place from Sept. 18 to 28. The general debate is expected to be held from Sept. 22 to 26, as well as on Sept. 28. Lavrov is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Sept. 26. The expected meeting between the Russian and US foreign ministers is set to focus on bilateral relations, regional security and ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
It was also reported that Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president for international affairs, had earlier said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner discussed the possibility of resuming trilateral contacts on Ukraine during talks in Moscow.
The UN General Assembly’s high-level week traditionally brings together world leaders and senior officials to discuss major international and regional issues, making it a key venue for diplomatic contacts on matters of global concern.
