Finnish President Alexander Stubb said in an interview with Bloomberg that US President Donald Trump could play a more active role in talks aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict.

Stubb said visits to Moscow and Kyiv by Trump’s special representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, as well as CIA Director John Ratcliffe, indicated Washington’s intention to develop a peace package:
“These visits show that the US president has enabled his representatives to re-engage in the negotiation process. I believe this step signals that President Trump will play an even stronger and more active role in the peace talks going forward.”
The Finnish leader also stressed the importance of reaching a mutual partial ceasefire agreement under which both sides would halt attacks on energy infrastructure, particularly ahead of the winter season.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was ready to negotiate a solution to the Ukraine crisis. The Russian leader also said he viewed Washington’s mediation efforts positively.
However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that working documents must first be fully prepared at the expert level and concrete results achieved before any new meeting between the leaders can take place.
The proposed partial ceasefire would focus on protecting critical energy infrastructure, an issue that has gained particular importance ahead of winter because damage to power and heating facilities can have a direct impact on civilians.
