The criminal case against officials accused of accepting bribes in exchange for not conducting tax inspections has been sent to court.

The Prosecutor General’s Office press service told “Operative Information Center-OMM”.

An investigation was launched by the Anti-Corruption General Directorate under the Prosecutor General after information was received from the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy about alleged unlawful actions by its officials. A criminal case was opened under relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Investigative and operational-search measures gave grounds to suspect Eldaniz Ahmadov, deputy head of the Baku City Main Department for Operational Tax Control and Organization of Accounting at the State Tax Service; Rustam Mirzayev, deputy head of the department’s Field Assignment Directorate; and Kenan Mammadov, head of its No. 4 division, of accepting a total of 200,000 manats in bribes in May 2026. The alleged payments came from numerous business owners operating in a shopping center in Baku and were intended to prevent tax inspections, avoid fines and secure other similar outcomes.

Based on the evidence gathered, Eldaniz Ahmadov, Rustam Mirzayev and Kenan Mammadov were charged under Articles 311.3.1 and 311.3.3 of the Criminal Code — accepting a large bribe by a group of people acting in prior agreement. A Binagadi District Court ruling ordered their pretrial detention, following a motion by the investigative body and a submission by the prosecutor overseeing the preliminary investigation.

The case has been sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes for consideration.
