A bus carrying Dutch tourists crashed on a mountain road in eastern Switzerland. Several people were killed and many others injured.

Several people were killed and a number of passengers injured when a bus carrying Dutch tourists overturned in eastern Switzerland. The incident occurred in the Engadin valley in the canton of Graubünden, near the Swiss National Park.

The crash was reported at around 4:45 p.m. local time on Thursday on the road linking the Alpine villages of Susch and Zernez. The bus was traveling from Zernez toward Susch when it first struck a roadside barrier and then overturned. No other vehicle was reportedly involved.

Graubünden cantonal police said in a statement that “several people were killed” in the bus crash and that others were injured. Several ambulances and five helicopters were dispatched to the scene for rescue operations.

The bus was carrying a total of 49 people: 48 passengers and the driver.

The Engadin valley is a popular tourism destination in southeastern Switzerland, known for its Alpine landscape and mountain roads. The Swiss National Park, established in 1914, is located in the region and is one of the country’s best-known protected natural areas.
