A tanker was hit by an unknown projectile while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a warning on Friday, according to Anadolu Agency.
The incident occurred at 1715 GMT on Thursday, Oct. 22, about seven nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman. UKMTO said it received a delayed report from a company security officer.
“The tanker was able to continue its voyage to the next port of call,” UKMTO said.
The agency did not identify the vessel or provide details about casualties or the extent of any damage. Authorities are investigating, and UKMTO advised vessels to transit with caution and report suspicious activity.
The incident comes amid heightened maritime tensions following the US-Iran military confrontation and ongoing security concerns affecting shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz.
