A tanker was hit by an unknown projectile off Oman early Wednesday, causing a fire that was later extinguished, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said, according to Anadolu Agency.
The incident occurred at 0145 GMT, about 11 nautical miles west of Bukha, Oman, according to a UKMTO warning issued on Wednesday.
Local authorities reported that the projectile struck the vessel and caused a fire. The tanker is now at anchor, UKMTO said.
All crew members were reported safe, and no environmental impact had been reported at the time of the warning.
UKMTO advised vessels transiting the area to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity as authorities investigate.
The incident comes amid heightened maritime tensions following the US-Iran military confrontation and continuing security concerns affecting shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz.
