Qatar is working with regional partners and China to help resume talks between the United States and Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Ibrahim al-Hashimi, head of the Media Affairs Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the statement.
He said the main objective was to end the crisis and prevent further escalation in the region.
“We are working with regional and global partners, including China, to restore dialogue with the aim of ending the crisis and stopping escalation in the region,” al-Hashimi said.
He added that reopening the Strait of Hormuz was of great importance to all parties in the region.
It was reported that the United States and Israel struck targets in Iran on Feb. 28. Iran subsequently carried out retaliatory strikes.
Although Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum on halting military operations in mid-June, the parties later exchanged strikes again. The conflict remains unresolved.
As tensions increased, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz nearly came to a halt. The route is a major transportation corridor for delivering oil, petroleum products and liquefied natural gas to global markets.
As a result, fuel prices have risen in most countries around the world. According to the American Automobile Association, the average price of gasoline in the United States is currently about $4.10 per gallon.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes. Any prolonged disruption there can affect global energy supplies, shipping costs and consumer prices.
