Pentagon report says Iran attacks damaged US bases

The US Defense Department’s inspector general has released a special report covering the first months of the war with Iran.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media accounts based on details of the document.

The report, covering the period from Feb. 28 to June 30, said Iranian attacks damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and facilities at US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan. It said the strikes depleted key US ammunition stocks and forced the US Central Command (CENTCOM) to relocate personnel and military assets to different sites. The report also noted that the logistics hub was moved to Diego Garcia after a naval facility in Bahrain was destroyed, extending supply times to between 14 and 18 days.

The attacks caused an estimated $184 million in damage to US diplomatic facilities in the Middle East, according to the report. The embassy in Riyadh, the consulate in Dubai and the diplomatic mission in Kuwait came under drone attacks, while the embassy in Kuwait temporarily suspended operations. During the reporting period, up to 3,500 diplomatic personnel were evacuated from the region, and many missions operated with reduced staffing.
